Austria has a long history of fighting for its own souveregnity depicted in natioal symbolics.
Decription of the national flag
There are two variants of the national symbols: popular flag and the protocol flag used during festival ceremonies and decorating governmental institutions.
The first variant is horizontal flag with three stripes two red ones and a black in the center.
The second looks nearly the same but it is decorated with a emblem of black eagle looking on the West. A black eagle of Gabsburg dynasty was depicted of the flag till 1918 before the First World War which finished but the creation Austrian Respublic. Before the Eagle as on the golden flag and this variant had been used since 955 when the state was mentioned in historical documents for the first time. There is a gold crown on the head of the eagle, in its paws it holds a hammet and a sickle breaking shackels. This shackels exists on the flag since 1945 after the country was liberated from the Nazis.
Meaning of the national colours
Red and white stripes symbolise will for fighting and hite one means honest and wealthy life. It reflects national story. The duke Leopold V demonstrated his soldiers by its own example how to fight.. He as so seriously hurt that his shirt was covered ith blood and only in the middle there as a white stripe.
