The flag of Azerbaijan was officialy approved in 1918 whe Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan was founded but this State was eliminated in two years. In 1991 Azerbaijan became independent again and since then the flag is officially approved.
Modern official flag
Nowadays the official flag of the country is a three coloured field with red, blue and green stripes. In the center there is a white cresent holdind by its edges an eight pointed star.
The symbolic meaning of colours
Blue symbolises Turkic nation representing the main population of the country. Red means changes and setting democratic regime within the country. Green is the symbol of islam the main religion of the country. The cresent also means that islam is the main religion of the country and plays an important role in the life of their citizens. Eight pointed star means the unity of diffirent branches of the Turkic nation. The other meaning of the symbol is eight letters in the name of the country in Arabic.
Nowadays the governmental constitution describes the status of the flag as a national symbol and the fact that the flag is under protection of the government. Also the constitition stipulates the collours, the number of stripes and its size. During official holidays the flag is always raised in public places.
