The flag of Belgium is divided into three parts: black yellow and red stripes. There are to variants of flags: popular and state one. The difference between them is that on the state flag there is an emblem of the lion in the crown on the yellow stripe.
The meaning of the flag
Some people may think that the national flag looks entirely like German but the symbolic meaning of colours is opposite. Black colour is a symbol of the force of Belgic people, red stripe is a courage of the victims who gave their lives for the independence of Belgium, yellow means wisdom and maturity.
The history of the flag
Firstly the colours of the flag were chosen in 1798, this variant as horizontal and the colours vere placed differently. Yellow was the first, then came a black stripe and finally red. The moder version was adopted in 1831 the stripes became vertical. Since then the flag has not been changed. Sometimes the size of the flag changes for example during different sport and cultural events. Vertical stripes appeared o the flag after the Civil war and the colours were placed in different order. Brazilians are very proud of their flag and their histoty.
