The modern flag of Bulgaria consists of three stripes from top to te bottom: white, green and red. During the period of bulgarian legia flag was the same but in the field they were placed in differen order:green, blue and red. The first flag is always associated with the leader of the national mouvement for inderpendence from Turkey. The modern field was created in 1877 when the country became independent.
Symbolic meaning of Bulgarian colours
White colours means liberty and independence. It is used because the citizens of the coutry struggled for its independence.
Green symbolises loyalty to the nature and agriculture. Red is a symbol of blood of citizens hurt or eve dead in the struggle for their independence. Before 1991 when the Soviet Unio split up the State arms was also on the canton of the flag but after it was eliminated from the national symbol. Since then the flag has not been changed. The national flag is used in every school because the citizens are very proud of the country and think that everybody should know the history.
Rules of the usage of the national flag
The State law protects the flag. There is even a set of rules how to treat the flag and what is prohibited:
- It is prohibited to use national symbols in negative contexts, white and black ackground is also prohibited.
- The law forbides to replace parts of the national flag;
- Arms and the national flag should be used separately.
