The national flag in Cameroon is used in its present form since 20 May 1975 it was an exact time hen Cameroon became a united country. It is a field with green, red and yellow bands and a golden star in the center. The size of the star may be different but it always has a stripe inside.
The country as the second to enter Pan- African movement so the colors used in the flag are traditional for the members of this organization. The center stripe is thought to stand for unity: red is the colour of unity, and the star is referred to as “the star of unity”. Yellow symbolises savanas in the southern part of the country and green colour is used like a symbol of forests in the Northen part of Cameroon
The was a previous version of the flag of Cameroon. It wa used from 1961 till 1971 had the same colours scheme but there were two stars in the center. It was adopted after the Southern part of the country broke the colonial dependence and joined the country.
The flag was confirme by the law in 1960 in the country`s new Constitution. There its parts, size and colours are approved officially.
