The national flag of the Chad Republic is a vertical tricolor consisting of blue, gold and red field. Some people think that it is similat to Romanian national symbol with the only difference in the lighter shade of blue. It caused international discussions but in 2004 the president of Romania said that there was no need to change the national symbol because when the national flag was adopted Romanian national symbol was different.
Blue symbolises the sky and hope of the nationa for the better future, gold signifies the sun and desert and red is a symbol of blood shed during the struggle for independence. The flag was adopted in 1960 soon fter the country became independent and in 1962 it was confirmed by the constitution. Political situation in the country was quite unstable but the flag has neve been changed since that time. Experts think that it is because the flag as nor assiciated with the country`s rivals and also because the country had no sence of national identity before it became independent and very little after it.
Before the adoption of the national flag the national symbol French tricolor was a national symbol as it was a part of the French colony.
