The official flag of the democratic Republic Congo was adopted 20 febrary 2006. The official flag is a blue field with five pointed star. It is divided by a diagonal red band framed yellow from a lower to the upper hoist.
All colors of the national flag have symbolic meaning. Blue is used as a symbol of peace. Red symbolises blood shed for the independence of the country. Yellow stands for the country`s wealthy future. Star is a symbol of the fact that the country hopes for the better future.
This flag has changed many times as this territory has had a difficult and controversial history. When the country was a part of Belgic Congo there was no need for the territory to have its independent symbols as Belgic tricolor was used as national symbols. Further the country changed politic regim and their governors so the original fag ws given back recently.
