The national symbol of Djibouti was adopted in 1977 soon after the country became independent fro France. It consists of three triangles: light blue, white and green and a red star on the white triangle. Light blue is the traditional symbol of the sea and the sky, green is the symbol of nature, white represents the peace and the star is the symbol of national uity and blood shed by patriots during their struggle for the independence of the country.
Before the French colony was esteblished there were other national symbols used on the terrtory of the present day Djibouty. The first one as the flag of the Adai Sultanate ith three cresents. Later it was replaced by the flag of Oman Empire that looked like Turkish. Sinnce the territory was conqured by France till 1977 the ‘French tricolor was the only national symbol on the teritory.
