The national flag of Haiti is a bicolored flag consisting of blue and red band. In the center of the flag there is a white panel with a coat of arms on it. A coat of arms depicts a number of arms to depict freedom. Also on the coat of arms there is a palm tree representing independence.
First time this design of the flag was used in 1808 after the Republic of Haiti as formed. The current version of flag was readopted in 2012. In addition to the official flag there is a civil flag where a coat of arms is omitted. Current constitution of the country prescribes the status of the national flag. It is written in all details what size should the flag be, what colors are used and when and where the flag may be used. Citizens of the country believe that their national flag reflect their national identity. The national flag is respected by all the citizens and flown on each public event.
