The modern flag of Iran is a rectangular field consisting of three horizontal stripes: green, white and red. In the center there is an emblem consisting of four cresents and a sword. The modern version of the Iranian flag was approved in the summer of 1980. It was developed by a local artist Hamid Over them, a version of which was adopted by Ayatollah Khomeini. There is another version of the meaning of these colors. Some people think that they represent three social classes. Green stands for peasants who spent all their life working on the field.
