The flag of Israel was adopted in 1948 soon after the State of Israel was established. It depicts a blue hexagram on a white background surrounded by two blue ones.
Blue stripes symbolize the traditional Jewish shrawl. The star of David is a famous symbol of Jewish people and Judaism. At first this flag wasn`t accepted as a national symbol because people thought that the national symbol should be free from religion. This flag was for the first time flown in 1904 in Lousiana purchase exposition.
This flag was criticized by some people as they thought it had a religious symbolic meaning. But this flag is not the only national symbol to use religious symbols. Muslim symbols can be seen on the flags of Algeria, Turkey. Christian symbols can be seen on flags of some northern countries, Switzerland and the UK.
