The flag of Jamaica was adopted in 1962. This year the country got independence from Great Britain. Like in many other countries the national flag is more than just a beautiful field. It has a cultural, religious and other meaning.
A black diagonal cross goes through the field dividing it in four equal parts lower and upper are green right and left are black triangles.

Gold is a symbol of the sun shining all year round on the territory of the country. Green means that citizens are sure in their future and also stands for well developed agriculture. It is interesting to note that the flag was chosen on the basis of people voting.
