The national flag of Jordan was adopted in 1928 soon after Jordan got independence from Palestine. This time the State was called the Kingdom of TransIordania. After a new State was founded the flag remained unchanged because it has cultural and religious meaning.
The symbolism of Jordan flag
The Jordan flag is a rectangular field divided into three parts by green white and black field. At the left part there is a red rectangle with a five pointed star in the center. Green is a symbol of fertility and wealth. For Arabic world it also means Islamic religion. White is related to one of dynasties who rulled the territory. Red triangle is a symbol of blood shed for the happy life and independence of the country. In religious sense the star means the first sura of Koran and symbolizes the divine help.
