The flag of Maldives Republic represents a green field with a red boarder. In the center of the flag there is a vertical white crescent. It was adopted in 1965. The red stands for the national patriots. Green represents the country`s rich nature and prosperity.
The earliest flag of this territory was plain red. Later black and white stripes were added at the left part of the flag. From 1926 to 1952 the flag of the country was red with a white crescent in the center. But in 1965 when a country got independence from Great Britain a black and white hoist was removed and since then the flag remains unchanged in its present form.
