The Federated State of Micronesia flag was officially adopted in 1978. This flag represents a blue field with four white stars. The blue represents an ocean and stars stand for islands forming the State. Nearly the same design was in use in 1965 but this period the country was named the trust territory of Islands of the Pacific ocean. Korsae that time was a part of Pohnpei so that time these territories were represented by one star. Three other stars represented islands which chose not to be a part of the Federation. The flag adopted in 1978 used the colors of the UN flag. Heraldic experience to depict unities being the part of the federation was borrowed from the United States.
