The flag of Nicaragua was first adopted in 1908 but was not in use until 1971. It is based on the flag of Republic of Central America.
The flag represents a horizontal tribal of blue on the top and on the bottom line. In the center there is a white band with a coat of arms in the center. The current flag of the country is similar to one of flags used in Central America. Cap of Liberty, rising sun and volcano appeared on the original emblem. A rainbow is one of two flags in the world alongside with Dominica where a purple color is used. In the first coat of arms there were five volcanoes represented five original states of nations. The Cap of Liberty is a sign of national freedom and rays of the sun and rainbow are symbols of national freedom and people`s hopes for the best future. Local citizens enjoy this flag a lot. They believe that this flag represent national spirit and national richness of the country. Local people think that patriotism must be taught from the childhood.
