The national flag of Northern Korea has other name in Korean which may be translated into English as red and blue flag. It is a tricolor having a wider red stripe in the center and two boaders. In the center of red stripe there is a red five pointed star in white circle.
The national flag is confirmed in Article 170 of the constitution. The main symbol of the flag is a red star being a symbol of Marxism and socialism. But the flag has not always been like this. At the beginning of the XX century this territory was a monarchy and it was called Korean Empire. This time country used a flag consisting of inn yang symbol with national triangles. This flag remained unchanged until this territory was annexed by imperial Japan.
But in 1945 after the Japanese defeat in the Second world the Japanese control over thisteritory was lost and the Soviet Union occupied the northern territory of the country. On 1 May 1948 after a national constitution was adopted and the official flag was approved.
