The flag of Palau was adopted in 1981, it happened when a group of the island separated from the United Nation trust territory. This color is blue and like many other countries of the Pacific region represent the ocean the country depends on. The yellow disc in the center represents the moon. It is similar to the flag of Bangladesh but on the flag of this country, the disc means the sun. It is interesting to note that for people from Palau a full moon is a symbol of good luck and they also believe it is the best time for human activity. This time the most important events in the life of the country take place. People do harvesting canoeing and celebrate national holidays.
Before on this territory flags of the United Nations and of the US were flown on this territory. Bright blue symbolizes the transition from the foreign countries to the self-government.
