The flag of Paraguay has been in use for a long period of time. It was adopted in 1842. A red blue white triband was inspired by colors of the Dutch national flag which was a symbol of liberty and independence. The flag is unusual because it is different on reverse and obverse sides. On the obverse side there used to be a national coat of arms and on the reverse side, there is a seal of a treasury. On the reverse side, there is a national symbol as a red lion under the cap. A national motto is written on the flag which may be translated into English as “Peace of Justice”. But the flag was revised in 2013 when the coat of arms was simplified.
The flag is respected by local citizens. During public holidays they may even have clothes colored in the colors of the national flag. In schools, children have special lessons where they are taught the country`s history. Local citizens believe that children must be taught patriotism since childhood. They like national flag and think that it reflects the national spirit and the country`s core values.
