The flag has an unusual ratio of length and width – 11:28. This is the only flag in the world, the width of which is more than twice the height. It is the narrowest and longest flag among modern States. Sometimes it is acceptable to use more familiar proportions – 2:3 or 3:5, but not during public celebrations.
The main colors are two-Burgundy and white. These colors divide the canvas into two unequal parts. The white part is twice smaller than the Burgundy. The red-brown cloth has on the left vertically at a pole a wide zigzag white strip, like a toothed saw. The band has 9 teeth.
Externally, the flag is similar to the state symbol of neighboring Bahrain, its eternal enemy and partner. But unlike him, has a different number of teeth (Bahrain has five), different proportions, and unlike the flag of a neighboring state – a darker color. Bahrain flag is red and white.
Red-brown color traditionally in heraldry symbolizes blood. On the flag, it is intended to recall the lives lost in battles and armed conflicts that have befallen Qatar in recent centuries. White color-a sign of harmony, peaceful relations, it speaks of the pure thoughts of the people of Qatar, striving for a bright future.
The nine prongs of the white stripe are not accidental. In 1916, the most important process of forming a peaceful region, called “Reconciliation of the Emirates”, began to take place on the Peninsula. The teeth symbolize the ninth state of the Persian Gulf, which became the Emirate of Qatar, which signed an agreement with Britain. For this reason, the flag of Bahrain, similar to the flag of Qatar, five teeth – he was the fifth.
