The naional flag of the Republic of Congo is a yello diagonal band dividing two triangles a green upper and a red lower. The flag was adopted in 1959 to replace French tricolor when the country gained independence from colonial protection. In 1970 the flag was changed because of the formation of People`s Republic of Congo but in 1991 pre 1970 flag was readopted.
The country was for a long time under the rule of France so it was forbiden for the country to have own national symbols because authorities were afraid that the national flag because authorities were afraid that it may lead to rebels of patriots struggling for independence. But in 1958 a limited authority was given to the country and the necessity for the on national symbol became evident.
The national colors are typical for African ex colonies. Red symbolises the blood of citizens who struggled for independence, yellow is a symbol of Africa. Green is a symbol of nature and maybe of the people`s force. The expert stil cannot explain the meaning of diagonal band because this country is the only to use diagonal pattern in national symbol.
