The flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis represents two triangles lower green and upper red one. It is divided from lower hoists to upper ones by a black diagonal line framed in yellow. In the center of this band there are two white bands. The flag was adopted in 1983 in order to replace Saint Cristopher Nevis and Aguila flag. This year the country gained independence and the necessity for the national symbol became evident. The symbolism of this flag is connected to Pan African movement but can be interpreted differently.
The flag carry politic, cultural and religious meaning. Green is the country`s fertile land and agriculture the country is highly depended on. Red is an intention for freedom from slavery and colonialism. Yellow is a sunshine the country enjoys for the whole year. Black is a metaphor for the country`s African origins. Two stars represent St Chrstopher and Nevis two islands on what the federation is based.
