Description of the flag of Senegal
The national flag of Senegal was officially adopted on 20 September 1960, immediately after independence from France in 1959.
For the model for the flag of Senegal was taken the flag of France. The Senegalese flag consists of three equal vertical stripes of green, yellow, and red colors, with the image of a star in the center of the flag.
The green stripe on the flag of Senegal symbolizes Islam, progress, and hope. The yellow bar indicates the natural wealth and success of the country, which will be achieved by the collective work of all the inhabitants of the country. The red line means the African struggle for independence.
All colors of the Senegalese flag are pan-African colors. The star on the flag means unity and hope. People from Senegal are peaceful and very positive so it is commonly believed that this flag is a reflection of the national spirit and of the core values important for the local people.
