Five peaks of the star symbolize five areas where Somalis live-Djibouti, Kenya, Ethiopia and the former British Somalia and Italian Somalia.
The blue color of the flag is taken from the UN flag, in gratitude to the assistance provided by the UN to Somalia in gaining independence from Italy.
