The flag of Sudan was adopted in 1970. It consists of three vertical bands: red white and black. On the left of it there is a green triangle.
Red color is a symbol for the struggle of independence. Black is a symbol of a country. From Arabian the name of the country may be translated as “a country of black”. Green is a country of Islamic and agriculture and rich natural forests. The previous flag which was in use since 1956 till 1970. It consisted of three bands: blue, yellow and green. Blue was a symbol of Nile river, yellow stands for desert and green means agriculture and rich natural resources.
Sudan is a country with a long difficult and controversial history. Its politic regime and governors of the county have changed many times but the citizens think that the national flag is one of the best national symbol.
