The flag of Syria represents a tricolor divided into three parts. On the central stripe there are two green stars.
The initial version of the flag used in the territory of the Syrian state was the flag of the Arab confrontation after obtaining the status of an independent state from the Ottoman Empire.
After 2 years on its basis was created and the flag of the Syrian Kingdom. The asterisk, located in the Central part of the red triangle, said that Syria is one of the first countries to use pan – Arab shades.
Later, the French changed the flag to a blue canvas with a white Crescent in the Central part. But it did not last long. Soon Syria was divided into 4 separate States. Moreover, each of them has created its own individual version of the flag. United, the former independent States began to use the flag, which had the main green and white stripe in the middle.
It lasted until 1936, has not yet formed a unified Syria. After 10 years, a new color was provided (the lower green color was changed to black) with 3 stars located in the Central part.
Many people think that colors of the national flag symbolize ruling dynasties of the country. But there are other versions of symbolic meaning of the flag. Red is a symbol of bravery and courage and blood shed for the struggle of independence. White is a symbol of peaceful coexistence. Black is a symbol of past of republic. The current flag was adopted in 1958 when Syria and Egypt united. But in 1971 the republic split up and the flag was banished but in 1980 it was given back.
