The flag of Tanzania was adopted in 1964. It is a yellow edged black diagonal band dividing the flag into two parts. This flag consists of two triangles green upper triangle and lower blue triangle.
There is political, cultural and religious meaning of these colors. Green is a symbol of vegetation and rich natural resources of the country. White represents people for whom this country is native. Blue stands for the Pacific Ocean the country is surrounded. Thin stripes between stand for the country`s rich natural resources.
British occupied this territory in 1916 for the first time. This time this territory was divided into equal part because it was under the dominance of Great Britain and South Africa. In 1960-s the country was called Sultanat of Zansibar. The change of politic regime of this country meant change in politic flag. But the flag in its present forn has been used since 1964.
