The flag of Thailand was approved in September 1917. Its previous version differed from the current version only in 1 detail: the color of the middle band.

Location of bands and their meaning
First, a Burgundy stripe is drawn, after it – white. They are equal in length and width. Behind them is a centered blue stripe. She is in 2 times above all others. Then the pattern is reversed: the white should be a rich red color.
- Red-symbol of blood. This is the price that the people of Thailand paid for their independence from other countries.
- White refers to the main state religion, Buddhism.
- Blue-shade of the Royal dynasty, ruling at the time of approval of the flag. Today, power belongs to another family. It’s yellow.
«People. Religion. Monarch.”- unofficial motto of the Kingdom. It is believed that the modern version of the flag of Thailand is a graphic embodiment of this saying.
There is another interpretation of the blue band. This is a tribute to the countries to which Thailand joined during the Second world war. The Alliance was concluded with America, Russia, France and England.
Errors in the interpretation of
Because of the size of the blue band, some people at the first acquaintance with the cloth there is a misconception about the place of the monarch in the state structure of Thailand. In fact, it is not necessary to consider local rulers as people aggravated by the awareness of their own selectivity and putting themselves above religion or the sacrifice of the people.
The strip, symbolizing the Royal power, contrary to its width occupies the same space with other strips. Just other colors are repeated twice, and blue is represented in a single copy. This is due to the fact that the state can have only one legitimate ruler.
