The national flag of Togo is now used as a naval jack and a national symbol. It consists of five vertical bands: green at the top and at the bottom, yellow and red. On the yellow band there is a five pointed star. This flag uses traditional Panafrican colors. Many people think it reassembles the flag of Liberia but with slight difference. A white star at the left hoist also makes the flag similar to the flag of the US.
Colors of the national flag are traditional for African countries. Red stands for the blood of people shed for independence of the country. White represents hope and symbolism for the better future. Green is the symbol of forests natural recourses and richness. Yellow is a symbol of wealth and natural recourses the country is rich in.
The citizens of the country believe that their country has a unique past. So national symbol plays a very important role in their country`s cultural life.
