The flag of West Sahara was a flag of the national movement. There is a unique combination of colors. It consists of tricolor: red green and white traditional Arabic colors. At the left hoist of the flag there is a red triangle. In the center of the flag there is a white crescent and a star.
The flag of Western Sahara, or officially the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, was adopted on 27 February 1976, but some changes were made to its design in June 1991.
At first, the flag of Western Sahara was the flag of the Frente Polisario. The flag of Western Sahara is very similar to the flag of Palestine, which happened unintentionally. In the current banner, against the background of many others, used shades of colors that were used during The Arab uprising. The Crescent and star are important symbols of Islam, and they are also used on the flags of other States where the Muslim population predominates.
Once the state has gained full independence through a popular vote, and is fully recognized internationally, the black and green stripes of the flag will be reversed.
