The flag of Arizona – the symbol of one of 50 US states.
In the middle of Arizona’s flag is a gold star. According to the state legislation, the star is “rising from a blue field in the face of setting sun”. The rays on the flag represent the first thirteen colonies of the USA. Due to this symbolism their number makes up thirteen. The star in the middle of the flag represents the copper mining industry developed in a high extent in the state. The color of blue is exactly the same as on the national flag of the USA. The blue of Arizona’s flag represents the Colorado River.
The flag of Arizona was designed by Charles Harris, the adjutant general of the Arizona National Guard, in 1911. The year later Arizona became a state of the USA. The flag was officially authorized as a state flag in 1917. The width and the height are strictly determined under the Arizona’s law. They are two and three units respectively.
