Flag of Virginia — the symbol of one of the 50 US states.
The flag of Virginia is a rectangular cloth of blue color with an image of the state seal in the center. It has a white background and a blue border. The flag was adopted at the beginning of the American Civil war in 1861. The flag of Virginia is the only flag among all US states that has a naked body depicted on it.
The Latin motto, “Sic semper tyrannis” situated at the base of the state seal in English means “thus always to tyrants”. This quote is attributed to Brutus at the time of Julius Caesar’s murder. The woman in the robes of the Amazon, allegorically representing the spirit of the Commonwealth, stands for Virginia. A trampled man represents tyranny. Throw a crown rests at the side, in his hands he holds a chain and a scourge. This emblem symbolizes a period of slavery and times when black people were considered lower class inhabitants. It also represents the national struggle over slavery.
